School Children

If for any reason, your child is not to be picked up after school, it is imperative that you notify us so we will not be looking for your child. We have other schools to go to and the delay may make us late getting to those other schools.

It is very important that you let your child's teacher know that your child may not stay after school. Our bus cannot go back for your child or wait for him/her. If for any reason your child must stay after school, you must have someone pick him/her up.

Pick Up to and from Public School

Timberbend Academy picks up and drops off at the following public schools: Boyd, Vaughn, Story, Bolin, Rountree, Reed, Anderson, and Marion. All children must be here by 7:15 a.m. if we need to take them to school. Our buses usually arrive back at the center, after picking up the children in the afternoon, about 3:20 p.m.

If for any reason we are not to pick up your child on a specific day, you must call and let us know. All children riding our buses need to come out of the building as soon as possible. We cannot wait for them to stand and talk to their friends and exchange phone numbers, etc. We have other schools to pick up.

Release of Children

Children attending Timberbend Academy will only be released to their parents or another adult designated by the parent. If you have another child between the ages of 14 and 17, that your are designating to pick up a younger child enrolled here, a statement in writing must be on file here at the center with the teenager's name on it and your permission for him/her to pick up the younger child and when (all the time or only specific days, etc.)

Arrival

When leaving your child at the center in the morning, you may bring them to their rooms or allow our staff to come out to your car and take them inside. By allowing your child to leave you at the door instead of you leaving him/her, you help your child to assume some responsibility for him/herself. This can aid in building your child's confidence level. We do welcome parents to come in at anytime of the day.

Field Trips

Only children that will be 4 years of age by September 1st of the current year and older children will be allowed on field trips. All field trips away from the center are within the Plano and McKinney range only. We never take children on freeways. All children attending the offsite field trips must wear a Timberbend Academy t-shirt. It is green and can be purchased at Squeegees in Allen. No children's names are allowed on the shirts. Only the name of the center and the phone number. These shirts must be worn all day so as to avoid losing them.

Children are checked by name as they load the buses to go on the trip, they are checked when they leave to return to the center, and checked again when they arrive back at the center. The teachers take roll as soon as the children are settled in their classrooms. The last thing the bus drivers do before locking the vans and parking them is walk the length of the van to make sure no children are sleeping on the van.

Third Friday of each month the pre-kindergarten class goes skating during the school year. The cost is $3.00 and needs to be paid separate from tuition. Children are not allowed to bring their own skates on skating day.

Read all notes on the front door and windows daily for activities, trips, and other information. Please tell your family members to do the same.

Please have exact change for all activities.

Volunteers

Parents may volunteer to help their child's classroom for parties, field trips, or daily activities. If parents are interested  in participating as a volunteer, the following criteria must be met:

A copy of high school diploma or GED, a current TB test and a criminal history background check. For more information, contact the office.

Enrollment

All children enrolled must have an enrollment form filled out and on file. This form includes but is not limited to the child's name, birth date, enrollment date, home and work numbers for each parent, other emergency contacts, any special needs for the child, immunization records, consent for emergency treatment (if necessary), current doctor (complete with address and phone number, and any other information we deem necessary for the health and safety of your child.

The enrollment form must be completed prior to the child's first day at the center. It may contain documentation that the child is able to participate in all activities and the daily routines of the center. This statement must have the doctor's signature or stamp affixed.

Immunization

All children enrolled at Timberbend Academy must be current on all immunizations. A copy of the immunization record must be kept here in the child's file. Immunization records must be updated as the children need them. You may bring a signed statement that your child's immunization records are current and on file at the public school the child attends. This must include the name of the school, the address, and the telephone number.

Medications

Minimum standards require:

  1. Child's name (not another person's name) on all medications
  2. Original bottle
  3. Expiration date on the bottle
  4. Tylenol may not be given unless we have some with the child's name on it (brothers and sisters may share the same bottle)
  5. No medications may be given without daily written instructions. A note signed by you with the dates and times that the medication is to be given will suffice.
  6. If it's over the counter medicine, we have to go by the instructions on the bottle. If it states "under 2, consult a physician", we must have a statement from the doctor.

Illness

If your child has a temperature over 100.4 degrees, you must pick them up from the center. They must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to the center. If your child has been exposed to any contagious disease, it must be reported to the school immediately. Parents will notified if their child has been exposed.

Medical Emergencies

In case of a medical emergency, we will call and notify the parent that we are taking the child to the hospital you specified on the enrollment form.

First Aid

We have a first aid kit in the medicine cabinet and on each of our vans. First aid is used immediately and according to the specific type of first aid needed. All minor cuts, insect bites, scratches, etc., are washed with soap and water, covered with triple antibiotic ointment, and a band aid applied if necessary. More serious injuries may require medical treatment. For any possibly severe back, head or bone injuries, an ambulance will be called also.

Hearing and Vision

All children enrolled at Timberbend Academy must have had a hearing and vision screening. This is also a state mandated policy. Any child at least 4 years of age must have one. Children in public schools will usually have one done in school. We simply need a copy on file. For our pre-schoolers, we provide this service here for about $10.00 each. We will always let you know when this is available. Parents will receive a copy for their records. In the event of a failure, then further testing may be necessary.

TB Testing

At this time TB tests are not required for children in Collin County (Allen). This may change in the future. Some doctors will give it as part of their regular immunization series. All teachers at this facility have had the testing. This is a state mandate and is for the protection of the children and other staff. If you have any questions about TB testing, contact your doctor or local health department.

Updating Information

Every August we will send out a short form to update information. During the year as work numbers or home numbers change, you must give us the new numbers. It is very imperative that we will be able to reach parents in the event of an emergency. Timberbend Academy will not be responsible for an incident where we could not reach the parents, or if we released your child to a person on our enrollment form and for some reason the parent has decided not to allow this person to pick up their child and we were not told about this change. Any changes at all in your enrollment information MUST be given to us for the best interest of all parties, and especially the children.

Parental Notification

All parents will be notified in writing about any changes to our policies. These notifications must be signed and returned to the center on the specified date. In the event of a fever, illness, or an injury to a child, the parents will be notified immediately. It may not be necessary for you to pick your child up from the center, but we want to keep communications open in the best interest of the children.

Posting Requirements

Licensing reports, health inspections, fire inspections, menus, and other pertinent information are always posted in the center where parents may view them.

Meals

Breakfast is not served at the center. The children may bring their own breakfast daily. We do not heat or cook breakfast. Please bring food in a disposable container. We do have bowls, spoons, plates, and cups. Lunch is served at 11:00 a.m. in their own rooms. Snacks are served at 8:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. Copies of our menus are available and the weekly menu is posted in the window by the front door for the parent's convenience. Children may bring their own lunches if they do not like what we serve. If your child will be bringing his/her own lunch at times, we need a statement from you acknowledging that you understand and accept that the lunch you have brought may not provide the accurate nutritional value required by the state. If your child will not be here by 11:00 a.m. for lunch, let us know.

Discipline

Time out/cool down is the main form of discipline used here at Timberbend Academy. It is usually 1 minute per years of age. Time out/cool down consists of a chair facing the center of the room. Older children may have to write sentences. These sentences number from 15 to 25. In some cases, other methods may be used; for example, if a child deliberately breaks a crayon, we may tell the child that they cannot color for the rest of the day. For a younger child, they would not be able to finish that particular project. For extreme or repeated incidents, the child may be brought to the office. Parents may also be called in some cases. Any child that is out of control or poses a possible threat to any other child will be dismissed from the center for the rest of the day, and the parents will be called to pick up the child. This is for the safety of the children and there are no exceptions.

Toys from Home

We do not allow toys to be brought to the center. For naptime you may bring a small pillow or blanket. We provide cots and sheets that are numbered for your child's private use. For older children, they may bring several, but they are responsible for keeping up with them. We will not be responsible for keeping up with them. We will not be responsible for lost or stolen items. We have plenty of toys here. Pokemon cards are not allowed. There is too much fighting over them. If you have any questions regarding any toys from home, ask the office personnel.

Extra Clothing

If you have a younger child, please bring an extra change of clothing every day in case of an accident. We have nothing for the children to wear. Please label the extra clothing with the child's initials.

ALL ARTICLES BROUGHT FROM HOME MUST HAVE THE CHILD'S INITIALS ON THEM. (CUPS, CLOTHING, OINTMENTS, TOYS BLANKETS, PILLOWS, MEDICATIONS, ETC.)
